Viewing Tips

The Southerner website and editorial content is optimized for your viewing pleasure and convenience whether you use a Mac or a PC.

Because of the differences between monitor resolution settings on the market, we recommend you view this site in 800 x 600 resolution. We apologize for any inconvience this causes for viewers who do not have this resolution option, or for those who are unaware of how to change the resolution setting on your computer.

If you happen to be on a Power Mac, like the one's we're using to design this magazine online, go to the Apple pulldown menu, to Control Panels, to Monitors & Sound, and change the resolution to 800 x 600. It will look the best on your screen and print correctly — with any luck and the will of the digital gods. If your setting happens to be 464 x 640, for example, the blue line on each inside page will run off the screen when you print and create blank pages, which wastes paper and trees, and we don't want that.

We hope that you find our editorial content pleasureable enough to grab the scroll bar and turn right through some fine Southern stories. Don't forget you can take the TS tour and read the magazine cover to cover without using the back button.

For those who wish to further enhance their viewing experience and print the magazine in its optimized best, we recommend setting the browser font and size to Times New Roman, 12 point type.

Then if you want to get crazy about it, like our Editor In Chief, and you want to see what the printout will look like on your monitor, take out a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper and hold it up to the computer screen. Grab the mouse and shrink the browser window until it lines up with the paper. Now remove the paper from the screen and hit the reload button.

Voila! A preview. Now slap yourself on the forehead and read on. Hit the damn print button if you just can't bring yourself to read it online!
