Abstract

This paper outlines the societal problem of air pollution as a human health risk issue. The health problem and the communication problem are defined and explicated. Information on the world wide web is evaluated and synthesized, with links provided for the reader's independent evaluation. The history of air pollution as an issue is also outlined, along with an analysis of how it has been covered in the news media. Then an informative web site is provided for working journalists to speedily obtain reliable information on how to cover the health, science, and politics in the battle for cleaner air. A conclusion maps out the status of the problem, the roles of politicians, the press and the people, and outlines what the public can do, on the individual and collective levels.
